What is facial recognition technology?
A facial recognition system is a technique capable of identifying or verifying a person from a digital image or video frame from a video source. There are multiple ways facial recognition systems work, but in general, they work by comparing specific facial features from a particular image with faces within the database.
Facial recognition technology is also sometimes described as a biometric AI-based application that can uniquely identify a person by analyzing patterns based on the texture and shape of the piss face.
Uses of facial recognition technology
While initially facial recognition technology was limited to computer applications, it has seen wider uses recently on smartphone platforms and in other forms of technology, such as robotics.
They are commonly used for access control in security systems and can be compared to other biometrics such as fingerprint or eyeprint recognition systems. Although the accuracy of the facial recognition system as a biotechnology is lower than iris recognition and fingerprint recognition, it is widely adopted because of its contactless and non-invasive process.
Recently, it has also become popular as an identification and commercial marketing tool, as well as video surveillance, automatic image indexing, and video database, in addition to being used to verify the identity of people at airports and to compensate criminals and as an alternative to identity cards in some medicine.
